20.3.13

found a hydrangea with lace rimmed flowers i was looking for a long time
in the home plant department of a quite depressing garden shop
where not even the herbs would smell
i got one just like this once from my roommate for my birthday
but it soon died - i hope this one is more robust
it´s future place in the garden is still coverd in ivy though
and i gave up upon removing it myself
my back says no - now i´m thinking of bribing someone into doing it for me
.
somehow i still like to wear dark blue corduroy trousers
almost like those dungarees worn while showing off some snowdrops at the age of three
some things don´t change
.
playing around with different kinds of flour
rice, buckwheat and sweet chestnut - a cake made with olive oil and goat milk
it has a most absurd nougaty texture
.
after knitting this WIKSTEN HAT three times so far i got an OTHER ONE
it is quite cold after all again
a post about TALKING ABOUT FOOD made me dream of an Astrid Lindgren summer
.
finished THE BELL JAR for my reading group
left me almost paralysed, shockingly touching
somehow i was worried the season finale of GIRLS would end just like that
.
my story for REMEDY QUARTERLY is now ONLINE in case you´re interested

10.3.13

reading your most kind words
made me already start some new "projects"
it will take a while, but i´m very excited about working on them
thank you all
.
TINY BOUQUET #31 TWISTED RIVER
.
winning an awesome silk scarf from the amazing girls of HUI HUI
made me a very happy fellow
it´s such a beautiful treasure
.
the sun - oh my - i´m so in love with her
it´s going to be more cloudy and cold the next few days
but she was out for some long days now
which i spent in the garden with my new best enemies ivy and mahonia
ripping and chopping away until my feet started to shake
no end in sight though
my uncle will come round with a chain saw and a huge axe soon
.
an abandoned nursery in my neighborhood is going to be torn down
so we set out to save at least a fraction of a huge sweeping bed of Chinese anemone, limonium and tulips
our family has kind of a rescue habit
once we didn´t only take the hydranges, ferns and peonies but also the vintage wrought iron fence
before they could throw everything away
.
my first roses
almost being 30 is probably a good time to start trying to grow some
and only one rosa gallica ROBERT LE DIABLE
the other ones are apparently "blooming constantly" which has a very nice ring to it
.
i had now idea that i into primroses
but standing in a hothouse full of them
made me fall for those cuties
and i want at least a thousand of those frittilaria uva-vulpis
.
this brass olive branch wreath is probably my sawing masterpiece so far
we´re working on a quite clean and abstract collection
and this is the whimsical counterpart
it needs to be lasercut, since no one could pay for those hours of sawing
.
these SHOES or those SHOES?

28.2.13

at the end of last year i thought of a project
involving all kinds of things i like
(besides making jewellery that is)
flowers, food, books
and somehow combining those things
so here is what i came up with
a picture essay on Last Night in Twisted River by John Irving
- my very own and clearly non- academic take on this novel -
full of bears, loggers, giant women, more or less likely weapons
impending mud season, deadly do-si-doing
all kinds of true and ever lasting love
.
and who can´t help but fall in love with Ketchum
writing angry faxes
armed at all the times in case of "critters" and mad cowboys
dating a wrestling girl friend called Six-Pack-Pam
.
with one of the main characters being a cook
there were lots of tempting recipes hidden in this book
including a fateful bit of honey in the pizza crust
but i opted for a pancake recipe
inspired by the loggers breakfast in the river driver town of Twisted River
.
100 g spelt flour
50 g buckwheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp cane sugar
pinch of salt
roasted chopped up almonds
250 ml milk

frozen blueberries

maple sirup

mix the flours, baking powder, sugar, salt and almonds in a bowl
pour in the milk
mix until well incorporated
let sit for a bit

heat up the blueberries until hot and sirupy

heat up a non stick pan
and laddle in the batter in small batches
to bake small fluffy pancakes
add more flour in case the batter is too runny or more milk in case it´s too firm
.
somehow i can´t find an end when working on projects i love
so i though i just had to press publish and move on
but at first i want to thank W for being a perfectly patient and hungry assistant
Franz for his collection of fixed-blade knifes to choose from
NINA for the lovely tin box
and E for her insights even though i didn´t follow her advice
.
i already have some more books in mind to work on
but i´d love to hear your recommendations
could also be a movie, poem, song...

26.2.13

my - well, actually not "my", because they belong to themselves - cat disapeared
cat girl took off almost three weeks ago and now her brother starts to stay away too
it´s weird since they seemed to love it around here
and they would never miss their bowl of warmed milk at the neighbours
somehow i think they try to find a way to escape winter (wish i could, too)
it´s the sadest thing
(trying to cheer myself up with this CAT VIDEO)
.
and i collected quite a few more food intolerances
especially cow milk and almost all grains
my belly feels already so much better
but i´m afraid the food supplements drive my stomache crazy
spent some time at the emergency room last weekend
because it felt like someone was stabbing me from behind
it seemed to look like gall stones
but then they didn´t find any
- i was already thinking about asking if i could keep them after they´ve retrieved them -
and i went home again
.
a few days later i got a full blown cold
still here in bed with me
not the flu, but awful enough
living of tined peaches, rice-noodle soup and white tea
waking again and again to the sound of snow shoveling
.
some things brightened my days though
a nice interview over at GOLD.PAPER.TALK
a bit on magazines and typography and me (wearing a Peter Pan COLLAR - found via BASTISRIKE)
- thank you, dear Marleen -
a beautiful package from OLGA
and some of our pieces on an exciting journey
also some WSAKE rings in the new LUNA magazine
(W was kind of confused by the article
"does this Mila person actually wear our rings?!")

10.2.13

MIMA posted an interview with WSAKE
and wrote some very nice words about us - thank you so much, Indre!
.
my days are spent planing and working on prototypes
and to clear my mind i think about the garden
what has to be done
and where to plant what
(including California poppies from NINA)
.
another tiny custom made golden thing - a knuckle ring
.
yesterday i went to a carnival ball
dressed up as my own cat in the very last minute
but i would love to come up with an actual costume
maybe i´ll give the welding outfit from FLASHDANCE a try...
adorned with a few blue bulbs
.
snowy and cold
